Climbing trip packing list
This list is for a sport-climbing trip: a week or two at a crag destination, climbing bolted routes and walking in to the crag each day. If you're trad climbing, add your rack of cams and nuts to the hardware section.
The heavy kit is easy to remember. It's the small items, like tape, a brush or the guidebook, that people leave at home. Check the hardware against your guidebook before you pack.
Before you pack
- Check your guidebook for the rope length you need. Some areas need a 70 or 80 metre rope.
- Inspect your harness, slings and rope before the trip, and retire anything worn or past the maker's lifespan.
- Check your airline's rules on climbing gear before you fly. Most people put hardware in the hold bag.
- Pack a warm layer for belaying, even in sunny places. Shady crags get cold fast.
